Jira for Task Management

Your compliance work, tracked where your team already works.

Overview

Scytale's Jira integration bridges your compliance monitoring and your team's task management. With this integration, security and compliance tasks surface directly in Jira - keeping everyone aligned without switching tools.

✓ Create Jira Tickets

Raise a Jira issue from any monitoring - choose project, type, assignee and priority.

✓ Scoped permissions

We only access what's needed (detailed table with permissions is below)

✓ Link Existing Issues

Paste a Jira URL to link an issue you already created.

✓ Automatic Status Sync

When a Jira issue status, assignee or priority changes, Scytale updates automatically.

✓ Link from Jira

Use the Scytale panel inside any Jira issue to link a monitoring without leaving Jira.

✓ Multiple Tickets per Monitoring

Link more than one Jira issue to a single monitoring when needed.

Connecting Jira

Before using the integration, an admin needs to connect your Jira workspace to Scytale. This only needs to be done once.

Steps to Connect

  1. Go to Company Settings

  2. Navigate to the Ticketing tab

  3. Click "Connect Jira". You will be redirected to Atlassian's consent screen

  4. Authorize Scytale. Review the permissions and click Accept. You will be redirected back to Scytale automatically.

  5. Select Jira Projects. Choose which Jira projects to sync. The integration is not fully active until at least one project is selected.

Disconnecting

Admins can disconnect at any time from Company Settings → Ticketing. This removes all registered webhooks from Jira. Existing ticket data in Scytale is retained.

Required Permissions

Prerequisite

The Jira user who authorizes the connection should also have Administer Projects permission on the projects being synced. This is needed to set region properties on projects.

If this permission is missing:

  • The connection still works.

  • Tickets can be created and synced normally.

  • Region properties will not be set on those projects (non-blocking — Scytale logs a warning).

Note:

No Jira admin access is required. All OAuth scopes are standard user-level permissions that any Jira user can grant through the Atlassian consent screen.

Installing the Scytale App in Jira

Install from the Atlassian Marketplace

  1. Click "Get it now". You may be prompted to sign in to your Atlassian account.

  2. Select your Jira Cloud site. Choose the site where you want to install the app.

  3. Click "Install". Atlassian installs the app on your site. No configuration is needed after installation.

Create a Jira Ticket

Create a new Jira issue directly from a monitoring in Scytale. The ticket is created in Jira and linked to the monitoring automatically.

  1. Go to the Control Center page in Scytale. Navigate to the monitoring you want to track in Jira.

  2. Navigate to the "Tickets" tab.

  3. Click "+Create Ticket".

  4. Select a project you wish to link the ticket.

  5. Fill in the ticket details.

  6. Click "Create Ticket".

Example:

Tip

You can link more than one Jira ticket to the same monitoring. Repeat the steps above to add additional tickets.

Link an Existing Jira Issue

If a Jira issue already exists in Jira, you can link it to Scytale by providing the Jira issue URL - no need to create a duplicate.

  1. Go to the Control Center page in Scytale. Navigate to the monitoring you want to track in Jira.

  2. Navigate to the "Tickets" tab.

  3. Click "Link Ticket"

  4. Enter the Jira issue URL, example: https://yoursite.atlassian.net/browse/PROJ-123.

  5. Click "Link". Scytale verifies the issue exists in Jira and creates the link. The ticket appears in the monitoring view immediately.

Note:

The issue must exist in a Jira project that is connected to Scytale. If the issue cannot be found, check that the project is included in your connected projects list.

Link from Jira (Jira Panel)

The Scytale panel appears inside Jira issues, letting users link and manage monitorings without leaving Jira. This is especially useful for engineering teams who work primarily in Jira.

Prerequisites

  • Your Scytale admin has connected Jira and selected the relevant projects.

  • The Scytale app has been installed from the Atlassian Marketplace.

  1. Open a Jira issue. Navigate to any issue in a project connected to Scytale. The Scytale panel loads in the right sidebar.

  2. View linked monitorings. The panel shows all monitorings currently linked to this Jira issue.

  3. Select a monitoring to link. Use the dropdown in the panel to search and select a monitoring from your Scytale workspace.

  4. Confirm the link. The monitoring is immediately linked to the issue. The link is reflected in Scytale automatically, no extra action required.

Note

The Scytale panel is only visible in Jira projects that are connected to your Scytale workspace. Contact your Scytale admin if the panel is not appearing.

Unlinking a Jira Issue

You can remove the link between a monitoring and a Jira issue at any time, from either Scytale or directly from the Jira panel. Both sides stay in sync automatically.

Unlink from Scytale

  1. Go to the Control Center page in Scytale. Navigate to the monitoring you want to track in Jira.

  2. Find the linked Jira ticket. The ticket is listed in the monitoring's Tickets tab.

  3. Click "Unlink". The link is removed from both Scytale and the Jira issue. The Jira issue itself is not deleted.

Unlink from Jira (Jira Panel)

  1. Open the Jira issue. Navigate to the issue in Jira. The Scytale panel shows linked monitorings.

  2. Click the unlink icon next to a monitoring.

  3. Confirm the unlink. Click Unlink to confirm. The monitoring is removed from the panel, and the link is removed in Scytale automatically.

Note

Unlinking does not delete the Jira issue or the monitoring. It only removes the connection between the two. All historical data remains intact.

Automatic Status Synchronization

Once a Jira issue is linked to a monitoring, Scytale listens for changes in Jira and updates the linked ticket record automatically. No manual syncing is required.

What Gets Synchronized

Change in Jira

Effect in Scytale

Issue status changes

The ticket status in Scytale updates to reflect the new Jira status (e.g., Done, In Progress).

Assignee changes

The assignee on the linked ticket in Scytale updates.

Priority changes

The priority on the linked ticket in Scytale updates.

Issue deleted

The linked ticket in Scytale is marked as deleted. The monitoring itself is unaffected.

Synchronization is powered by Jira webhooks and happens in real time. There is nothing to configure, it activates as soon as the integration is connected and projects are selected.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I link a monitoring to more than one Jira issue?

Yes. You can link multiple Jira issues to a single monitoring. Each link is independent and tracked separately.

  2. Does creating a ticket in Scytale notify the Jira assignee?

Scytale creates the Jira issue with the assignee you select. Jira's own notification settings determine whether the assignee receives an email or in-app notification - this is controlled by your Jira configuration, not Scytale.

  3. What happens if I disconnect Jira?
All registered webhooks are removed from Jira and the connection is marked as disconnected. Existing ticket data in Scytale is preserved. Reconnecting requires repeating the setup steps.

  4. The Scytale panel is not showing in Jira. What should I do?
Ensure the Scytale app has been installed from the Atlassian Marketplace and that the Jira project is included in your connected projects list in Scytale. Contact your Scytale admin if the panel is still missing.

  5. Why can't I see certain Jira projects in the project picker?
Only projects selected during the Scytale Jira setup are available. Ask your Scytale admin to add additional projects in Company Settings → Ticketing.

  6. Is admin access required to use the integration?
Admin access is only required to connect Jira (a one-time setup). Day-to-day use - creating tickets, linking, unlinking does not require Jira admin privileges.
